In Israel, there are excellent teachers who fulfill their role tirelessly, believe in the abilities of their students and encourage them to reach their full potential. The talent, knowledge and experience of these excellent teachers is the cornerstone of any attempt to improve the quality of education in Israel. Israel needs these exemplary figures in order to mark a direction and a path, and for that the public needs to know their art, better understand what effective teaching is, and all this in order to increase the public’s trust in its teachers.

In 2012, the Trump Foundation will launch the award while involving the general public in the question: “What is quality teaching?” The award will present to the public the outstanding teachers as cultural heroes and role models to encourage more teachers and those interested in the teaching profession to follow in their footsteps.

Criteria for selecting the winning candidate include:

1.Provides personal care to each student:

Knows closely the knowledge, abilities and needs of each of his students, believes in him, sets ambitious goals for him, adapts the teaching method that suits him, closely monitors his progress, gives him constructive and strengthening feedback in real time, and supports his learning.

2. Encourages active learning in his classroom:

Creates a learning atmosphere in his classroom that allows him to ask, make mistakes, express knowledge and position in writing and orally, challenges students to deal with complex problems, builds classroom discussions that rely on students’ arguments and encourages them to respond to the positions expressed by their peers.

3. Active partner in a professional community:

A leading partner in a professional community that strives for continuous improvement in his teaching and student learning, coordinates his work with his fellow teachers, shares his work with them, learns with them from their joint work, educates teachers and imparts practical pedagogical skills to them.

4. Helps his school to activate a learning support system:
Helps school staff and management formulate a shared teaching concept, design learning progress monitoring routines, build a support system for students in need, operate a student community focused on student learning, share transparently and build with parents, and create a learning climate that affects teaching quality and learning.
A nominee for the award will be a teacher who:
A. Demonstrates in his work a direct impact on the achievements of his students consistently and over time.
B. Teaches in a school for over 5 years and in the 2009-2010 school year teaches in the classroom most of the time.
