Online tutoring for high school students

The Center for Educational Technology (CET) is among the first grantee partners of the Trump Foundation. In 2012, CET created the “Virtual High School”, that allowed high school students in the periphery to study mathematics and physics at the five units level. Since then, CET has been collaborating with the foundation in many programs, including the development of diagnostic assessments for applied mathematics, an online learning platform for Arabic speaking students, and an attempt to create a virtual middle school for new excellence classes.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s online learning department, CET is now proposing to create an e-mentoring program for 1,000 high school students in the South who are preparing for the matriculation exam in mathematics. The plan is to reinforce the teaching that will be provided by their teachers, with additional support from mathematics undergraduate students at universities.

The plan is to recruit 100 tutors and organize them to assist high school students in groups of four. Each group will meet virtually for mathematics sessions of 1.5 hours twice a week over a period of four months. In addition, each ten students will participate in a WhatsApp group with professional teachers who will be able to provide further assistance. In specific cases, teachers will convene a larger group of students to concentrate on specific mathematical issues.
