The social protests in Israel of summer 2011 revealed public dissatisfaction with the state of Israel’s education. Many teachers joined these demonstrations, driven by their frustration with the disconnection between decision makers in education and those practicing in the field. They have pointed to the lack of cooperation between different stakeholders in education, and their failure to include a broader participation in formulating education reform in Israel. Engagement with the subject has raised awareness among young Israelis who care about education, and has the potential to generate greater demand for the teaching profession.H Ze Hinuch is a newly established non-profit organization, which grew out of the social protests of the past summer. The organization is led by a group of young teachers and education activists, who wish to create an inclusive dialogue between different circles in Israeli society and arrive at a new educational vision for Israel. In collaboration with media group The Marker, H Ze Hinuch plan to hold a conference in which education reform will be reviewed and discussed, with the help of both Israeli and foreign education experts and consultants. Prior to the conference, H Ze Hinuch will convene roundtables and workshops, and utilize virtual forums and social media, to solicit wide public participation.
