Between 2006-2012 the number of students studying mathematics at five-units declined dramatically. This deterioration was halted due to excellent teachers, broad recruitment and clear policy-making.

The main rise in number of students taking five-units was in the state-secular education system. In 2014, the number of students who studied five-units mathematics in the state-secular track was 33% more than students in the religious-track, and 120% more than students in the Arab-track.

According to these figures, after years of mixed trends, beginning in 2012 the numbers of high-school physics students in Israel has clearly and consistently risen reaching record levels.

Teachers

According these figures, in the last few years most new high school math teachers come from career-retraining (i.e. people teaching as a second career). In 2016, Israel reached a 15-year record in the number of people choosing to study mathematics-education in college and university.
